Dear readers,

“Chashitsu wo Tsukutta” written and edited by myself is a compilation of written records in a mode of diary during the preparation period from the scratch to the completion of Raku Kichizaemon Pavilion at the Sagawa Art Museum. From 2002 till 2007 I had five years of struggle, doubt and excitement in the process of conceiving, designing and building Raku Kichizaemon-kan helped by over 800 people who participated with the same commitment and enthusiasm in realizing this project like a big architecturally bound family.
The book is also composed of multiple of thoughts over how I perceived chanoyu and the tea room; of memories and experience I had in the project development from its birth towards maturity and completion as if to watch the growth of a child sometimes mingled with pain and joyous satisfaction. It is in some way to conserve all these past memories on pages and dedicate them as homage to the Pavilion at the moment of inauguration.
I feel a bit embarrassed to expose without restraint my bare emotion by publishing this book but would sincerely hope to share with the readers the same dramatic experience I went through during the whole project.

Sincerely yours
Raku Kichizaemon XV
